Do any of you have trobkle reading Bruce Cattons Civil War books. I do, and maybe I`m just a dummy. I've the same trouble with British Authors. Its like they're trying to show how intellectual they are. Taking forever to get the point across. I don`t have the problem with most authors. I am currently interested in the American Civil War, and most people assure me that Bruce Catton is the Author to read compared to Shelby Foote, McPherson, and othersMaybe I`m just not as smart as I thought I was, I don`t know. Anyone have the same trouble and do you think others are better Civil War writers. After looking around, I learned — For popular history Catton is maybe a tiny dense. You might enjoy authors with a lighter touch like Shelby Foote whoever is much more approachable. I've butted heads with Catton, but found I tend to learn more form authors that–as you noted–get to the point. Anyway, it's a good subject to research. Don't let Bruce put you off, just get something written for real people instead of intellectual snobs.
