. Basically… Kim Jong II (16 Feb 1941 – Russia known as Yuri Irsenovich Kim) is the Leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (N. Korea) and Supreme Commander of the Korean Peoples Army, the 4th longest standing army in the world. They follow Marxism-Leninism as the core ideology and the Army is the foundation of power for N Korea. He is also Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea. He assumed office in 1994. His father, Kim II Sung is the founder of N Korea, who commanded the 1st Battalion of the Soviet 88th Brigade, made up of Chinese and Korean exiles. His son Kim Jong-un is heir apparent. Kim Jong II exercises absolute control over the government and the country. He's had a positive growth rate for the country since 1996 and the implementation of "landmark socialist-type market economic practices in 2002 kept NK afloat despite a continued dependency on foreign aid for food. He formally approved some small-scale bartering and trade which is remarkable. He pardoned the American journalists in Aug 2009 after spending a night talking to ex-president Bill Clinton. He kidnapped S Korean film director Shin Sang-ok and his actress wife Choi Eun-Hee in order to build a North Korean film industry. In 2006 he was involved in the production of Diary of a Girl Student.
